Our History
Lennox and Addington Children’s Aid Society began operations in 1899, and was incorporated in 1933. In 1985, our name was changed to Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services.
The society operated out of the Town Hall in Napanee until 1928, then moved to the upstairs of the Royal Bank building until 1932, after which operations were moved to Dundas Street East, over Brady’s Meat Market. In 1952, the agency relocated to the County Memorial Building at 41 Dundas Street East In 1992 the agency moved to a newly constructed site at 465 Advance Avenue. In the spring of 2010 we have again moved to a newly constructed facility, located at 99 Advance Ave, Napanee.
The Agency began providing services through a sub office in Amherstview in 1988.
The agency opened a receiving home in Napanee in May of 1960, called Barrett House, and later changed the operations to a group home for children in care, until 1995. From 1997 until 2005, Pathways for Children and Youth operated the home, and then in 2007 the home was redesigned for use as office space upstairs, and as a family visiting centre and youth in care meeting place on the main floor.
The agency also operated a group home in Newburgh, beginning in 1976, that later operated as a receiving home.
The agency had a staff complement of 5 in 1966, 18 in 1986. By 2006 we had 63 persons on staff.

Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services Today
Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services is celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2009. The agency is under Provincial license to carry out the provisions of Child Welfare legislation as agent of the provincial government. These duties include the investigation of reports of child abuse, neglect or maltreatment, provision of services to support families so that children may safely remain in their own home or where this is not possible, to provide substitute care for children until they can return to their family. Where reunification is not possible other permanency planning options, such as adoption are pursued.
Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services is a privately operated organization, with governance oversight provided by a volunteer Board of Directors. As a provincial Transfer Payment agency, operating funds for mandated services are provided by the Government of Ontario through the Ministry of Community and Social Services, Ministry of Child and Youth Services.
Today Lennox and Addington Family and Children’s Services have a staff complement of over 60 employees, supported by an additional 85 families providing foster care services and many volunteers providing important supports to our work.
We serve the entire county of Lennox and Addington. Our main office is located at 99 Advance Avenue in Napanee. The northern part of our county is serviced through a satellite office in Northbrook. We also provide Family Access services through a separate facility in Napanee.
