Kinship Care
Kinship Care is the term used to describe a special type of foster care. Wherever possible, the preference for placement for children who cannot reside with their parent is with a person known and familiar to the child. Extended family members or friends of the family may provide substitute care for children in a manner that is less disruptive to the child, and may support other benefits such as increased contact between the child and their family.
Kinship Care foster parents are approved in the same manner as other foster families. The primary distinction for kinship foster families is that they normally are interested in providing care for a specific child who is known to them.
